The Los Angeles Angels have suffered another roster setback, as a key outfielder has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.
He suffered the injury during Tuesday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians while running the bases. He was forced to leave the contest after appearing to hurt the hamstring while advancing to second base on a wild pitch.
The 28-year-old had only recently returned to the Angels after being recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Aug. 22. He had started four consecutive games before the injury and was 4-for-11 with two RBIs during that stretch.
He will be eligible to return in early September, although the exact timetable could depend on how quickly the hamstring responds to treatment. The Angels will likely turn to their available outfield depth while he recovers.
The injury comes at an unfortunate time for Campero, who was getting another opportunity to establish himself at the major-league level after missing time earlier this season with a fractured right hand.
For an Angels team already dealing with multiple injuries, Campero’s absence adds another challenge as the club moves through the final weeks of the regular season.
