Michael Malone has been working hard to expand the squad during his brief tenure as North Carolina’s head coach. Terrence Brown and 5-star Sayon Keita’s commitments have brought attention to the situation, but the other pledges have also been encouraging.
Do we really believe that the Tar Heels’ situation would have been the same if Carolina had waited for Billy Donovan to make a decision? Donovan apparently expressed interest, but he wanted to see things through once Chicago’s season concluded, so there was no possibility.

After leaving the Bulls, he has been connected to the Magic. There are rumors that he might wait to see what happens with the Knicks because he might be interested in the position if it becomes available. This indicates that Donovan’s goal was always to take over another NBA team and that Carolina was correct to turn to Malone and work things out with him:
Billy Donovan is rumored to be eyeing both the Knicks and Magic
Mike Brown is now the head coach of the Knicks, although there have been rumors that he may be leaving shortly. New York started the Eastern Conference playoffs against Philadelphia with a stunning victory.
Malone has been working extra hard for the Tar Heels, and he recently traveled to Europe to pursue some of his top targets. Keita committed to Carolina after that trip because the talented FC Barcelona center wants to have an instant impact.
Another major target abroad is Senegalese big player Mouhamed Faye, but there is concern that he might end up somewhere else. North Carolina has not yet received a pledge from him, and there was hope that Malone would have completed that while meeting with him and his squad in person.
Unfortunately, that didn’t occur, and it is hoped that a team like St. John’s won’t sign him. much if that does occur, Malone is assembling a strong team for the upcoming season, and things will be much better if a few more important players are added. Donovan would have been a fantastic hire, but we can’t hold it against him if the NBA was his true passion. Furthermore, nobody can hold UNC accountable for pursuing Malone as a result.
