Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood is currently in blistering form, but a top commentator is predicting the worst for the New Zealand international.

The 32-year-old increased his goal count for the 2023/24 season to 13 in all competitions with an equaliser for Forest in a 3-1 loss to Tottenham yesterday.

Wood joined Forest from Newcastle for £15 million in January 2023. He arrived on loan at first, but after three starts for the club, his loan was extended permanently.

Wood had a somewhat disappointing season at Forest last year. He was actually hurt at Tottenham in March of last season and was out for the rest of the season.

With Taiwo Awoniyi out injured for much of the season, Wood has had to step up at City Ground. He’s done an excellent job of it, and yesterday was his fourth consecutive game of scoring.

Things may have turned out very differently yesterday. Wood had a fantastic opportunity to put Forest ahead shortly after equalising, but his shot cannoned off the post when it was easier to score.

What Gary Lineker has said about Forest striker Chris Wood

Although Wood is currently in top form, Lineker believes the Forest player may be suffering from a hangover following yesterday’s game against Tottenham.

He stated on The Rest is Football, “Why was he trying to break the back of the net? He couldn’t miss it if he simply dinked it.

“Do you know what will happen now? He has been on a great run of form, and from my experience, when that happens, you tend to have a horrible run.

“He will be thinking tonight, ‘How?'” In addition, it can have an impact on your confidence. “I hope I’m wrong!”

Wood can bounce back from this

An in-form striker may find things too simple at times. Ultimately, that’s what happened yesterday, and Wood tried to be sure but merely fluffed his lines.

It’s difficult for us to be too critical of Wood. Without his goals this season, Forest would be barely surviving in the Premier League, and they have a chance owing to his strong performances.

As an experienced member of the dressing room, we expect Wood to quickly recover from this misstep and continue to drive Forest to safety this season.

Awoniyi was on the bench for the game yesterday, but he was not included in the matchday squad.

It’s unclear when he’ll return, and Forest must hope that Lineker is wrong and Wood continues to produce goals for the squad.
