Wolves pl 2024

Gary O’Neil is said to be a great supporter of a rarely seen Wolves player who is now impressing on loan.

Wolves fans are hoping for a very positive summer window this time around, following what happened just under a year ago.

The club ran into financial difficulties in 2023 and had to sell a number of high-profile players to balance the books.

Wanderers did bring in a few players, but the club’s options were limited, and they couldn’t spend until money arrived.

While Wolves are expected to make one or two more large sales this summer, they will have more freedom to sign players.

With Craig Dawson getting older, it is entirely possible that Wolves will try to add defensive reinforcements. One player on loan may have a chance to play next season.

Gary O’Neil really likes Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera, he could get chance next season

Yerson Mosquera has become a forgotten man at Wolves.
He joined the club from Atletico Nacional in the summer of 2021 for roughly £4.5 million, and Wolves officials were overjoyed with his acquisition, believing they had landed a potential future star.

However, he had a devastating hamstring injury on his competitive debut for the club, preventing him from appearing again in his first season.

Midway through his second season, he joined MLS club FC Cincinnati, where he excelled.

Mosquera is now on loan at Villarreal and has struck the eye early on, prompting speculation that he could return to Wolves next season.

Journalist Liam Keen discussed what the Wolves might be up to this summer in terms of incoming and outgoings. He also shared O’Neil’s feelings regarding Mosquera.

He said (via Shots TV): “Gary’s really interested in him. The club is really interested in him. He’s done well in Spain, which is a significant step up from his loan in America.

“It appears that Yerson Mosquera will have a huge opportunity next season.

“Obviously, there could be departures from any of those roles. But if there isn’t and Mosquera comes in, you may not need to sign a centre-half.”

Mosquera could be like a new signing for Wolves

There is still a lot of football to play this season, and anything can happen, but Mosquera appears to be on pace to return to the Wolves’ first team.

The Colombia international enjoyed a terrific stint in the United States, which enabled him return to regular play after a lengthy injury layoff.

He has recently moved to a more competitive level and has gained the attention of Gary O’Neil, who appears to appreciate what he sees from a distance.

It would be incredible if Mosquera returned to Wolves and established himself as a regular in the starting lineup. He certainly had a bad start with his injury, but by all accounts, he is a genuinely likeable individual and a beloved figure at Compton Park.
