With Texas A&M football on a bye this week, Aggie supporters are looking around the conference for games that could help the Ags achieve their goal of winning the SEC championship and the College Football Playoff.

This week, numerous significant contests are taking place, some of which are more high-profile than others. The best two games of the weekend, however, are undoubtedly Georgia’s visit to Ole Miss and Alabama’s visit to LSU. The former game ended with the Rebels defeating the Bulldogs 28-10.

Ole Miss’ defense was positively smothering throughout the afternoon, unrelenting against Carson Beck and his offense. This is a big win for the Rebels to stay in postseason contention, while the Bulldogs face a potential elimination game against the Tennessee Volunteers next week.

A loss here would have removed the Rebels from postseason contention, which appears to be a significant advantage for the Aggies—one fewer team to worry about on the field, and all that. However, it is possible that the Aggies will benefit from it. Here is how.

This outcome benefits Texas A&M as they strive to win the SEC championship, which, given their two defeats, is likely their best path to the College Football Playoff. If A&M wins and finishes 10-2 heading into the SEC championship, they will most likely be in regardless of the outcome of the game.

However, if the Aggies finish 9-3, their position will be significantly weakened. At that time, reaching the SEC title game and winning it would most likely be essential. This result reduces UGA to a two-conference-loss team, giving A&M a better opportunity to win the SEC championship with a 6-2 SEC record.

This victory also ensures that A&M has complete control over their SEC championship chances. If Georgia and LSU had both won—and another couple of dominoes had fallen—there was a small chance that A&M would have been left out, even if they had also won. But now it’s completely in the Aggies’ hands.
