The Los Angeles Angels are preparing for one of the most aggressive moves of their new era, with Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal emerging as a dream target for the franchise.

Skubal is expected to headline the upcoming 2026–27 free-agent class, with MLB.com ranking the left-hander as the No. 1 available player. That makes him precisely the type of elite talent the Angels could pursue as they attempt to transform the organization.

Angels Could Make Major Pitching Statement

For years, the Angels have struggled to build a consistently dominant pitching staff around their star players. Adding a pitcher of Skubal’s caliber would immediately change that equation.

The left-hander has established himself as one of baseball’s premier starting pitchers, and his availability could create a massive bidding war once free agency officially opens.

The Angels would face plenty of competition, but their situation has changed dramatically following Stan Kroenke’s agreement to purchase the franchise from Arte Moreno.

The transaction, which is expected to close in early 2027 pending MLB approval, has created renewed speculation about the organization’s willingness to invest heavily in the roster.

A Rival Star Coming to Anaheim?

The idea of the Angels taking Skubal away from a rival contender would be particularly significant.

Rather than simply adding another veteran arm, Los Angeles would be attempting to acquire a pitcher capable of becoming the centerpiece of its rotation for years.

That could give the Angels a powerful combination of young talent and frontline pitching as the organization looks toward a potential turnaround in 2027.

Kroenke Era Could Change Everything

The Angels are currently heading toward another losing season and have not reached the postseason since 2014. Kroenke’s arrival therefore creates an opportunity for the organization to take a completely different approach.

A blockbuster pursuit of Skubal would certainly fit that vision.

There is no confirmed agreement between Skubal and the Angels at this time, but the possibility is enough to generate significant excitement around Anaheim.

If the Angels eventually decide to make Skubal their top free-agent priority and put a massive contract on the table, they could turn the 2026–27 offseason into the beginning of a completely different era.

For Angels fans, stealing an elite rival ace like Skubal would be the kind of blockbuster move that could instantly make the franchise’s new direction feel real.
