The Atlanta Braves have undergone a significant managerial transition as the organization looks to move beyond a disappointing 2025 season and restore itself as one of Major League Baseball’s premier contenders.
Brian Snitker, the longtime Braves manager who guided Atlanta to the 2021 World Series championship, did not return for the 2026 season. After nearly a decade in the dugout, Snitker moved into a senior advisory role with the organization.
The Braves subsequently promoted Walt Weiss to take over as manager.
The decision came after Atlanta failed to reach the postseason in 2025, a disappointing outcome for a franchise that had dominated the National League East for much of the previous decade. Snitker finished his managerial tenure with 811 wins, six NL East division titles and a World Series championship.
Atlanta Needed a New Voice
The change represented more than a simple coaching adjustment.
The Braves entered 2026 determined to rebound from their disappointing campaign, but the transition created immediate pressure on Weiss. With a roster built around stars such as Ronald Acuña Jr. and Matt Olson, expectations remained extremely high.
Any prolonged losing streak would inevitably raise questions about the direction of the team and whether additional changes might eventually be necessary.
However, Atlanta has recently answered those concerns in emphatic fashion.
Braves Turn Season Around
Rather than continuing to slide, Atlanta has produced one of its strongest stretches of the season.
The Braves completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Aug. 28, with Chris Sale throwing a complete-game shutout and striking out 11. The victory moved Atlanta to within one game of Los Angeles for the No. 2 seed in the National League.
Atlanta then swept the Colorado Rockies, extending its winning streak to seven games.
Matt Olson delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning Sunday to give the Braves a 3-2 victory and complete the sweep. Ronald Acuña Jr. and Sean Murphy also played important roles in the win, while Tyler Mahle continued to provide valuable work for the rotation.
The recent turnaround has completely changed the conversation surrounding the organization.
Pressure Shifts to September
For Weiss, the challenge now is maintaining the momentum.
The Braves have demonstrated that they can respond when their season appears to be heading in the wrong direction. After losing three consecutive series earlier in August, Atlanta has responded with back-to-back sweeps and seven consecutive victories.
That means the focus is no longer on whether the Braves need another managerial change.
Instead, the question is whether Weiss can guide the club through the final stretch and into October.
With the postseason race intensifying, Atlanta’s recent surge could prove to be the turning point of its 2026 campaign.
The Braves made a major coaching decision before the season began. Now, their players and new manager have an opportunity to prove that the organization made the right call.
