After deciding to use the transfer site, Seth Trimble was sure to address any concerns.
If the NCAA approves a new eligibility regulation, which is expected to take effect in the summer, Trimble, a four-year player at the University of North Carolina, might be eligible for a fifth season. Although some were surprised by the decision (assuming that if Trimble gained an extra year of college eligibility, he would automatically transfer somewhere), that is not at all the case.
Here are Trimble’s thoughts on the subject after speaking with Andrew Jones of TarHeel247:
“”I would definitely consider that if that becomes a reality, but right now I’m totally focused on the NBA process,” Trimble stated. “Carolina is always home, so I would absolutely consider that.”

Given how devoted Trimble is to the University of North Carolina, some supporters might be perplexed as to why he would use the transfer portal. The answer is really straightforward: if the NCAA eligibility decision is implemented, it gives him more flexibility.
“My agent and I thought it was the safest thing to do, hence why a bunch of other seniors are starting to and about to do the same.”
Tyler Nickel, a former Tar Heel who most recently played at Vanderbilt, is allegedly taking the same course as his former teammate, so Trimble is not alone in this position. Seniors like Trimble will concentrate on their prospective professional basketball chances while keeping the possibility of returning to college (should the rule change materialize) in the back of their minds because this situation is still very much in flux.
Any senior in this situation who uses the transfer site to keep their options open is not at fault. In Trimble’s case, this is obviously a safety net maneuver because the native of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, believes there are two possible outcomes.
